Bob Dylan

launched: 2008

project type: website

project with: chime interactive

We were thrilled and honored when the fine people at Columbia Records asked us to start thinking about Bob Dylan.

This project more than any other helped us really bring our idea of music websites into focus. All music and performances (tour dates) are completely related and presented through a variety of interfaces. The site is light and minimal, but a closer inspection reveals a much deeper experience, full of information and pathways that users can lose themselves in.

I Was There.

BobDylan.com has to appeal to a fanbase that ranges in age from 18 to 80 and we needed to make a tool that would open up social features to a user base that doesn't necessarily understand them in a traditional sense.

We were proud to present the "I Was There" button. This single button became the gateway for thousands of users to connect themselves with the site and with Bob Dylan.

DylanGEO.

Another thing that we really wanted to create for Bob Dylan was a tribute to his touring history. At the time of launch he had played over 2600 shows spanning over almost 50 years. We came up with the DylanGEO.

The idea was to make a single interface where you could access every date and location that he'd ever played. We took inspiration from old newsreel footage and utilized Papervision3D to create the globe and markers. We then let the community have at it and within a few weeks the globe was full of colored dots representing uploaded photos, videos, and memories from over those 50 years...and it's still growing!
